A standard 42 inch wide bowling alley was cut to desk-width and the left over was used for a floating shelf above the desk.

Trim
This picture shows 3 unique options. The trim wood pictured here is hard maple, a light colored and strong wood. The top edge was eased using a round-over bit. And walnut plugs were used to highlight the holes used to fasten the board to the table. The species of wood, routed edge and plugs are all customizable.
The raw edge of the alley is exposed, showing how each piece is put together, and perhaps even some nails.

This is a completed table with Jacobean stain and matte polyurethane. Note the dull finish even in the direct sun. The legs are from Symmetry Hardware.
No Stain, protected with Matte Polyurethane. Not as shiny as the gloss.
